Positive behaviour will ensure that all students are best placed to take full advantage of all opportunities in school. We have a great school but it requires full co-operation and respect from all to ensure we are effective
Students are expected to-
Arrive on time
Bring appropriate materials
Follow instructions
Focus on work without interrupting
Behave responsibly & respect others at all times

2. Promoting Positive Behaviour
Your class teachers, Pastoral teacher and House Head will take time to recognise when you, as an individual or you as a class or group are doing really well by using. These are the sorts of things you can expect

Nomination for Award or Certificate

3. Promoting Positive Behaviour
Inappropriate behaviour is not acceptable in JGS. It prevents and disrupts quality teaching and learning and interferes with the smooth running of the school. All staff will take corrective actions to address and challenge unacceptable behaviour
Verbal Warning
Re-position in room
De-merit
Punishment exercise
Move to isolation
Referral Room
EMT Call-out

4. Promoting Positive Behaviour
It is important to note that the corrective actions belong to the staff. They can choose to jump stages or start further down the list.
Under no circumstances is it acceptable to argue with staff about the corrective actions being used in classrooms. Follow all instructions given by staff so that the lesson can proceed quickly

5. Promoting Positive Behaviour
There is a code of behaviour for our corridors, social spaces and the playground to ensure all members of JGS are in a safe, pleasant, respectful environment
We behave in a calm and orderly way
We show respect for others at all times
Our behaviour shows that we care about others and take pride in our school
We will stay out of buildings at social times unless it is raining

6. Promoting Positive Behaviour
All students have allocated buildings for breaks and lunch times. All S1- S3 should remain on the main site unless using the canteen or going down the street- S4 – S6 should be on the games hall side of the road unless seeing a member of staff

7. Mobile Phones
Mobile phones should be switched off and out of sight when entering classrooms and during classes.
There may be occasions in class when staff allow students to use their phones for educational purposes
Inappropriate use of phones will be challenged and dealt with.
Verbal warning.
Temporarily removal of phone till the end of the period.
EMT removal of student and phone from class and phone stored in the office to collect at the end of the day.

8. School Uniform
All students are expected to comply with the school uniform policy
Students are expected to wear
school sweatshirt/plain black jumper/plain black cardigan
school polo shirt/white shirt /white shirt and tie
black trousers/skirt
black footwear
white shirt and school tie for S6
Failure to comply with this will result in staff challenging you
Request to remove inappropriate clothing if suitable/ possible
Warning and De- Merit ( Pink slip issued)
Uniform de- merits are monitored by house heads and will result in more formal action being taken
