Our School Values and Jesse Owens Throughout our school, we use the values of LIFE as an aid to progress. Jesse Owens demonstrates these values and he can be used as a role model to students.

Learning He said ‘I let my feet spend as little time on the ground as possible. From the air, fast down, and from the ground fast up.’ His passion was athletics, ours is creativity and life long learning – always aiming higher

Integrity Jesse showed integrity by competing in the Olympics not just for America but for his creed. He ignored the racist comments and stood for what he was; an American athlete. He didn’t glorify his victories, he simply did his best for his country. He lived to his ideals throughout his life. In 1980 he tried to persuade President Jimmy Carter not to boycott the Moscow Olympics saying the Olympic ideal was to be a time- out from war and above politics.

Friendship Jesse competed in a 4 x 100m relay, in which he won a gold medal, and had to work together with his team mates to achieve victory. While Jesse often suffered discrimination in all his life he treated everyone with respect.

Excellence He won 4 gold medals in one single Olympics; 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, long jump. Above all Jesse Owens inspires success.
