MOBILE LEARNING PROGRAM PBS KIDS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) have joined forces to give pre- school and early-elementary school children access to PBS KIDS apps for free via community organizations like yours. Powered by a Ready To Learn grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the program is part of an initiative designed to use the power of media to advance early learning and school readiness. What does this mean for my organization? You can request and distribute codes for PBS KIDS apps. These apps are to be downloaded onto iOS® and Android® devices that are available to children from low-income families that your organization serves — either through your organization’s programs, or in their homes. Which apps are available? MARTHA SPEAKS: WORD SPINNER — iPad and Android tablets, ages 4 to 7 DINOSAUR TRAIN: CLASSIC IN THE JURASSIC, JR. — iPad, ages 3 to 5 PEG + CAT: BIG GIG — iPad and Android tablets, ages 3 to 6 Players compare height and length of two or more objects, use units to measure, use a pan balance, sort and classify, and practice volume, capacity and distance. Players pick an instrument and play songs with Peg, Cat and their friends in worlds featured on the show – on the farm, Pirate Island, Magic Forest and Purple Planet. A multi-player, open-play app, players tell and act out crazy stories using new words. It builds oral storytelling and vocabulary, and nuances of verbs and adverbs. WILD KRATTS: CREATURE MATH — iPad, ages 6 to 8 Players practice addition and subtraction, and learn valuable ecology and science concepts as they create their very own animal habitat, filled with cool creature pals. ODD SQUAD: BLOB CHASE — iPad and Android tablets, ages 5 to 8 In this game, kids help to recover the blobs by using gadgets to add, subtract, halve or double passageways throughout Odd Squad headquarters.

Once these materials are received, your organization can start distributing them to low-income parents, caregivers and teachers who have access to the appropriate devices. What are the requirements for using the apps? Organizations participating in this program must agree to a series of set terms and conditions. App codes distributed through this program may not be sold for any fee whatsoever.
