Branding E-learning Innovations Project Outputs

Purpose of this session This session will provide E-learning Innovations Teams with guidelines around how the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework) brand should be applied to outputs from the E-learning Innovations projects.

Start by accessing the 2009 Framework Branding Guide –The purpose of the Framework Branding Guide is to ensure that Framework outputs are delivered to the Framework’s target audiences in a clear and consistent brand and style, as agreed nationally by the Flexible Learning Advisory Group (FLAG), which is the Framework’s advisory body.

Refer to the branding checklist on page 6 - 7 of the Framework Branding Guide It is a quick reference checklist which outlines the main branding requirements of the Framework.

Make sure you have visited the E-learning Innovations Toolkit which contains a range of documents and templates to assist you E-learning Innovations Toolkit The Toolkit is regularly updated and is version controlled – always cross check the version control on the documents you are using to make sure you have the latest version!

The Toolkit provides useful resources that can be downloaded into a zip file.

Reference tools Framework Branding Guide Framework Spelling and Writing Guide E-learning Innovations Toolkit Brains Trust Branding Guidelines Brains Trust Branding Checklist –Many of the above documents are available on the NSW Innovations wiki

Early in your project consider where your project output will be housed. This will determine what sort of branding should be applied to the output. For example will your output be housed: on an external RTO website on the Framework website

External RTO website or Profile page When an output is going to be housed on an external RTO website, and be supported and maintained by the RTO, then Framework branding is kept to a minimum. –This is because the Framework is not actively involved in or responsible for the output’s ongoing future support and maintenance –Remember to include a short acknowledgement statement on the first page of the resource (see p19).

Hosting on the framework website: –If you are housing your project data on the Framework website you must adhere to the requirements outlined in the Toolkit –All resources created for 2009 E-learning Innovations projects must use the appropriate document or presentation template –All documents must have the appropriate Framework branding and acknowledgements

There are three Framework website locations: –Toolbox Repository –Resources Database –E-learning Innovations Team Profile page.

When submitting an output for the : –Toolbox Repository –Resources Database You will need to use a detailed acknowledgement (see next slide)

This is a [insert year] [insert state/territory] E-learning Innovations project output, developed by [insert RTO and partners names], with seed funding from the national training system's e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework).E-learning InnovationsFramework The Framework provides the vocational education and training (VET) system with the essential e-learning infrastructure and expertise needed to respond to the challenges of a modern economy and the training needs of Australian businesses and workers. For more information, contact the Framework on: Phone: (07) 3307 4700 Email: enquiries@flexiblelearning.net.auenquiries@flexiblelearning.net.au Website: http://flexiblelearning.net.auhttp://flexiblelearning.net.au

We will now consider the following: –Framework Logo –DEEWR logo –Framework website details

Framework logo (mandatory) size and placement –Positioned on the top left of all outputs and appears as the dominant logo –Size: Minimum width is 70mm (print) or 407 pixels (web) –Correct format is used (ie.eps,.jpg,.tif,.gif)

See examples of Framework logo misuse –Page 10 of Framework Branding Guide See examples of Framework logo combined with other organisation logos –Page 12 of Framework Branding Guide

DEEWR logo (mandatory) size and placement –Positioned on the top or bottom right of all outputs –Size: Minimum crest width is 20mm (print) or minimum crest height is 64 pixels (web) –Correct format is used (ie.eps,.jpg,.tif,.gif) Refer to the note on page 13 for a list items where the logo is not required

Framework URL (mandatory) size and placement (page 15) –Positioned on the bottom left of all outputs –Size: Arial 14pt bold font

If you are creating a learning object, work through the learning object template with your team to ensure your project output complies The template appears in share files within the adobe room for your convenience –The NSW Innovations wiki contains links and downloadable templates to assist you

There are also various templates available for CD and DVD labels and content splash pages

The Framework must be referred to as the ‘Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework)’ in the first instance It can then be referred to as the ‘Framework’ in subsequent references. –Note: The Framework can be spelt out in full throughout a document if preferred; consistency is the key.

If you are writing about your E-learning Innovations project please refer to the funding source, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework. You can use one of the definitions on the following slide:

The Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework) is the vocational education and training (VET) sector’s national e-learning strategy. It provides the VET system with the essential e-learning infrastructure and expertise needed to respond to the challenges of a modern economy and the training needs of Australian businesses and workers. If space is limited use (see page 16) –The Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework) is the vocational education and training (VET) sector’s national e- learning strategy.

The Framework copyright statement must be used on all Framework outputs (except for PowerPoint presentations). Refer to page 16 - 18 There are three versions of the Framework copyright statement available for use, depending on the type of output that you are developing and the space you have available.

Option 1 should be used for most Framework outputs (eg CD-ROMs, reports, research). Option 2 should be used for all Australian Government- owned, non-endorsed, learning resources that could be defined as a product (eg Flexible Learning Toolboxes). Option 3 should be used on Framework outputs that are tight on space (eg brochures, CD-ROM label). See pages 16-22 of Framework Branding Guide for more information.

Statement positioning: CD Rom – option 3 on label and splash page. Content will use a link at the bottom of each page When it is clicked on it will open up a new window that contains the statement for option 1 - p17 See examples p 21-22

Statement positioning: Website – link on the bottom of the page When it is clicked on it will open up a new window that contains the statement for option 1 - p17 See examples p 22-23

Statement positioning: Documents – statement should appear on the inside front cover page, positioned towards the bottom. Use Arial 18pt See p 24

Statement positioning: PowerPoint – statement is not required All other outputs – the statement should appear within the output and if space is limited use option 3

For examples of other layouts such as Heading Styles see pages 25-27 of the Framework Branding Guide.
