What to do with Mind Maps – Making Notes

Learn to understand how to make notes using a mind map Learn to use your memory

Remember your brain does not think just in straight lines. Trying to memorize things for a test by reading and making lists of notes does not always work. Learn to make a Mind Map instead and help your brain.

Look at the article you have been given titled CONQUERED While you are reading, try to imagine that you will have to tell some-one what it is about when you have finished. This will help to focus your mind

Use a blank sheet of paper and some colored pencils Pick out the main topic of the article and draw it in the center of your page. This will summarize what the article is about – in this case the Battle of Hastings. Make the image stand out – COLOR IT IN

Draw lines coming out from your central point as listed in the previous slide What – Where – When- Who – Why – Result Fill in the details of this sub-topic level of facts Use key images or key facts Next draw some branches coming of each of the points so you can add a third detailed level of facts – dates, names, numbers

Use colors to make things stand out. Your mind map will be a MAP outside your head of what is going on inside your head
