1 Implementation and Management of Using ICT for Learning and Teaching LE ANH PHUONG Hue University of Education, Vietnam

2 Situation analysis

3  There are 25 people participating in the Department. They are mainly from the staff of the Department of Computer science, Hue University of Education.  Being IT teachers they have good ICT skills, but not all of them are aware of the significance and benefits of ICT and techniques for ICT integration.  They all focus on curriculum, especially the syllabus of their own subject.

4 TASKS

5 T echniques used to recruit these faculty members  Firstly, we used the technique of need assessment and the process is capacity upgrading by integrating ICT in teaching different disciplines.  Another technique that has been used to recruit the staff member is demonstrating the benefits of ICT means in presenting a matter or reporting the results of scientific research.

6 How to get the members’ support for the program and train them to offer Peer Coaching  To obtain the members’ support for the program I have proved to them the advantages of ICT means over the traditional ones. By using such means as Power Point, Internet, Hi-class, mindmap and so on we can increase the quality of teaching and learning.  In order to enable the member to offer Peer Coaching to others, I have chosen the most simple tools, which are described in a way so that all the members can acquire and use them to serve their own purposes. Once the members have acquired the necessary skills to use a new ICT tool they can easily instruct others in using it.

7 Tasks that you have implemented so far with the leader, colleagues, and pre- service teachers?  Integrating portions of the Peer Coaching class into existing courses on methodology and curriculum.  Prepare the course for pre-service students.  Training courses IT for 3th students (Making slides for teaching at high school in the future)  Organizing Workshop and seminar to discuss about appling ICT for teachinh and learning  Attending the Workshop and conference about using ICT for teaching and learning.

8 Difficulties encountered  Lack of necessary materials and equipment to serve the integration of ICT.  Language barriers: most of the members are not good at English while most of the materials are in English.  The methodology is another obstacle to the integration of ICT. The transition of the old traditional methodology to the new one requires much time and preparation.  The curriculum in Vietnamese universities are generally rather fixed and not flexible enough to make changes or modification. That is why so far, we have only integrated ICT into certain subjects but not all the curriculum. Because great changes must be approved by the University leaders.

9 How to overcome difficulties?  In order to cope with the above-mention difficulties, we have step by step collected materials from various sources.  To overcome the language barrier we encourage the members to improve their English and at the same time we have some people who are good at English translate the most important materials into Vietnamese so that others can use them as references.  To gain the approval of the University authorities we have tried to convince them of the benefits of ICT and its economic and scientific values.  To have more equipment we have called for support from international organizations

10 RESULTS

11 T he monitoring and evaluation process?  After each technique was presented, it was followed by practicing and discussing in groups. Problems arising were solved by combining individual ideas and group’s initiatives. Achievement assessment was done mainly through practicing what the members had learned.  So far all the staff members of the Department can master different techniques for ICT integration in their teaching.  The leaders have become aware of the significance of integrating ICT in the teaching process

12 NEXT STEPS

13  Offer Peer Coaching courses, integrate coaching into existing courses, create a coaching training courses (ICT).  Deploying at all departments in University (teachers and students)
