5. CLOSE READING & INFERENCE : You pay close attention to the sentences, taking time to understand the meaning. You try to read between the lines. You can also “read” other parts of a text closely to develop your understanding… Images reveal a lot about a piece of writing.

6. How to read an image closely: The dark clothing infers that he may only come out at night; just like a bat! His clenched fist infers that he is ready for action and isn’t afraid of fighting. His cape infers that he can fly like a bat and the design on the end look like bat wings. His logo stands out even more as it is black on a yellow background. This is so people know who he is and remember him.

7. How to read a hero closely: What can you infer from the colors used? Are they positioned in a particular way? If they have a logo, what does the design infer? Do they have any extra features and what do they add to their character? INFER: Hidden meanings/ideas
