Chapter 7 Quiz There are three phases in the socialization process.
Anticipatory socialization is a process that occurs before entry into the organization. Metamorphosis is a sense making stage that occurs when a new employee enters the organization.

Chapter 7 Quiz The Encounter phase is the state reached at the completion of the socialization process. The employment interview is one of the most widely used contexts in which new employees can be recruited or screened. An employment interview also allows a potential employee to discover things about a prospective organization.

Chapter 7 Quiz Observing is a newcomer information-seeking tactic in which the newcomer purposely violates suspected norms and then observes what happens. Role taking is the first phase of the role-development process. If your boss trusts you, listens to you, and provides you support, chances are that you are in the “out-group.”

Uncertain Reduction Theory
Relational comm. involves exchanging of personal information Deals w/ ways in which individuals come to know themselves and others in interaction Focus on self awareness and knowledge about others People have a difficult time w/ uncertainty, so they want to be able to predict behavior with interactions. They inform themselves about the person.
