3. Discovery Phase (cont) After review of the data set, we feel that the Lansing School District would be our choice to perform the SDD Process. Lansing School District had the lowest cohort graduation rate as of 2007. It is also the largest school district in the Tri- County area, having three high schools; Eastern, Everett & J.W. Sexton

4. Draft Triggering Question What factors contribute to the drop out rate for our students in the Lansing School District?

5. Potential Stakeholders Students 1 representative from each high school Samples of gender & ethnicity Parents 1 representative from each high school Recommend that the students selected not be related to the parents selected

6. Potential Stakeholders (cont) Teachers 1 representative from each high school Recommend that the students selected be from a different high school than the teachers selected Principal/Vice-Principal 1 representative from each high school

7. Potential Stakeholders (cont) Counselors 1 representative from each high school Recommend that the students selected be from a different high school than the counselors selected Superintendent of Lansing School District

8. Concerns Proposed group does not have a significant sample of students. i.e. should we have more students than educators? We are looking at urban schools in the tri- county area; may not be capturing the rural concerns of the tri-county area.

9. Structured Dynamic Design Process During the SDD process, we will use both virtual and face-to-face sessions. Stakeholders will participate in an initial face-to-face session to train on how to use a Webscope Wiki. The Webscope Wiki will be utilized to: Generate discussions Generate perceived inhibitors Classify inhibitors into groups Prioritize the inhibitors “Map” them to determine the true root cause(s) of the problem
