3 New MCCCD Minimum Requirements for Academic Areas https://hr.maricopa.edu/jobs/how-to-apply/faculty-minimum-qualifications https://hr.maricopa.edu/jobs/how-to-apply/faculty-minimum-qualifications 1.The Academic Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university: 2.Either:  A master's degree in the teaching field, or  A master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. 3.EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College -- or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire.

4 Exceptions MATHEMATICS Master's in any teaching field with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours with Math or Statistics and Probability prefixes, or a master's in mathematics. Note: A maximum of 9 upper division/graduate semester hours in math education or math content areas with physics or engineering prefixes may be counted toward the 18 at the discretion of the math department/division chair.

6 Plan A: Take the same courses that mainstream graduate students take + Rigorous Content. Almost certain to be accepted -Negligible connection to teaching. -Not offered at reasonable times; not offered in summer -Admission issues -Brutal courses - …

7 Plan B: Take graduate content courses for in-service teachers + Better scheduling + Better match to academic level + Content goes beyond level of teaching + More connection to teaching -Content not at traditional graduate level; some risk of acceptance -Content may not match teaching content -Limited pedagogy

8 Plan C: Take graduate pedagogy courses for in-service teachers + Excellent pedagogy match + Better scheduling + Better match to academic level + Content matches teaching content + May provide applicable instructional materials -Content not at traditional graduate level; some risk of acceptance; content may be lower division level
