The Community Response Model Brings together government and communities Recognises that local people understand their needs best Gives communities, big or small, a chance to identify local solutions Brings a fresh approach to the planning and delivery of community social services

Community Response Model – key components Fourteen regional forums Strategic Funding plan Quality Service and Innovation Fund Enable families and communities to have a voice and develop their own solutions Review existing MSD family and community services funding Recommend to the Minister for SD&E new ideas for making a real difference for families Supports the forums to transform social services in their community (not a general application process) Encourages collaborative and innovative community-based solutions

About the Forums Northland North Shore/Rodney Waitakere Central Auckland Southern Auckland Waikato/Coromandel Bay of Plenty Taranaki/Whanganui Hawkes Bay/East Coast Manawatu Greater Wellington Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast Greater Canterbury Otago/Southland National Membership: –Government/other funders –Community –Iwi Members are appointed Role is to: Enable the voice of families and communities to be heard Seek out and foster collaboration Look at current performance in communities Use their good knowledge and understanding of their communities

Quality Services and Innovation Fund $90.5 million over 4 years to improve effectiveness and efficiency of services –Level One - improving service capability and quality –Level Two – improving capacity, filling identified gaps in services Forums to use Fund as a strategic tool Not accessed through a general application process Want to see agencies working together to work out how they can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services delivered

What can you do? Don’t wait for the forums…act now Start getting on with ways to work together to achieve better results for families – if we were starting from an empty page, what would we do? Think of new ways to support families to manage their own lives independently of outside agencies Bring together and share the voices of families and communities that you have available to you
