Being human involves having a body, soul and a place in community. We have the freedom and responsibility to shape our own relationships. How would you define a positive relationship?

O Read “A Christian Perspective on Being with Others” on page 8 and “Learning to Be” on page 9 in Be With Me. O What makes some friendships better than others, from a Christian perspective? O How did Jesus show us how to be a friend? O Define virtues and give three examples of virtues. O How do we develop virtues?

The Beatitudes: Old and New Testament

O In the Old Testament (or Hebrew Scriptures), God gave a framework to people through Moses O The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17). This is a statement of what not to do.

O The Beatitudes, a part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount further develops the picture of how humans should interact with each other and with God (Matthew 5:1-12). This is a statement of what to do and outline the path to true happiness.

O Locate the Beatitudes and copy them into your notes. O Read page 15 in Be With Me. O Copy Unit 1 Summary Statements (4 bullets) on page 16 of Be With Me.
