Exponents base exponent
2
The Rules of Exponents: The exponent of a power indicates how many times the base multiplies itself.
3
The Rules of Exponents: Rule 1: When multiplying the same bases, add the exponents.
4
The Rules of Exponents: Rule 2: When dividing the same base, subtract the exponents.
5
The Rules of Exponents: Example: If the product of the bases is powered by the same exponent, then use the distributive property to give each base the same power.
6
The Rules of Exponents: Example: If the quotient of the bases is powered by the same exponent, use the distributive property To give each of the bases the same power.
7
The Rules of Exponents: Rule 3: When the base is within parentheses and powered by another exponent, multiply the exponents.
8
The Rules of Exponents: Rule 4: If the base is powered by a negative exponent, then “flip” the numerator/denominator to become the denominator/numerator. This action changes the negative exponent to a positive exponent.
9
The Rules of Exponents: Rule 4.5: Any base to the zero power equals one!
