Strong and Weak Electrolytes
2
Substances whose aqueous solutions produce lots of free moving ions are called STRONG ELECTROLYTES! Substances whose aqueous solutions produce few free moving ions are called WEAK ELECTROLYTES! Substances whose aqueous solutions are good conductors of electricity are called STRONG ELECTROLYTES! Substances whose aqueous solutions are poor conductors of electricity are called WEAK ELECTROLYTES! + + + ― ― ― ― + + ―

Strong and Weak Electrolytes Strong acids, strong bases and soluble salts are STRONG ELECTROLYTES! HI, HBr, HCl, HNO 3, and H 2 SO 4 are strong acids (the rest are weak). LiOH, NaOH, KOH, RbOH, and CsOH are strong bases (the rest are weak). Weak acids, weak bases, & insoluble salts are WEAK ELECTROLYTES! + + + ― ― ― ― + + ―
