2 Richland County Grant  Grant Awarded September 2010  Community Development Block Grant Funding  Section 3 (Provides job training and education to low income families)  Participants are required to be at or below 80% of AMI and reside in one of the following programs: Section 8, Public Housing, or Housing First  Awarded $50,000 for 8 months  Eligible Expenses Education, Job Training Programs for Health Occupations and Construction, Technology Training, Career Development, and Transportation Assistance

3 28 enrolled in GED/Diploma Classes 49 participated in a health occupations job training program 58 completed Computer Classes 56 participated in Career Development Classes Richland County Grant Outcome

4 Richland County School District One Adult Education  Partnership (Over 11 years)  GED/High School Diploma (GED Classes, Testing & Books)  Enrollment has increased and Success Rate is higher  On-site testing  Classes were held in the Cecil Tillis Center in the Celia Saxon Community

5 HUD/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Initiative (2009) Mission/Goal: Decrease the prevalence of diseases associated with Cardiovascular Disease in public housing communities through education, health screenings, and community engagement. Educate the community on issues such as High Blood Pressure, Physical Inactivity, Smoking, Diabetes, and other health related topics. Community Health Workers Free Health Classes Health Fairs Health Screenings Walking Clubs Farmers Market Partnerships: Providence Hospital Eau Claire Cooperative Health Center Lexington Medical Center

6 12 residents completed training to become Community Health Workers (CHWs) 63 residents participated in the WEHL Program
