1 Do Now Did you like working in groups and making posters last Friday? Do you think you learned a lot about your region? Do you think we should do a project like this again? 2 Finish your posters and prepare to present You will have 10 minutes to get with your groups, finish your posters and prepare to present You will present for 1-2 minutes and tell the class about the five things your group learned about your region

3 Poster presentations After each group presents we will take notes about the region on page 26-27 of your work books If you have your work books take them out if not take out a blank piece of paper. You must write you notes on this blank piece paper.

4 Atlantic Region Population: the first area in Canada settled by Europeans who moved there to fish Language: English and French Climate: Humid Continental Buildings: Many light houses because of fishing industry Economic activity: Fishing, coal mining, farming and forestry

5 The Core Region Population: most Canadians live here. 3 largest cities: Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa Language: English and French Climate: Humid Continental Buildings: Gothic revival society/ large stone buildings Economic activity: Farming, factories, hydroelectric power

6 The Prairie Region Population: about 5 million people in the 3 provinces Language: English Climate: Southern part- Semiarid and humid continental; Northern part- sub-arctic Buildings: Farms Economic activity: farming, mining, oil

7 Pacific Region Population: more than 4 million people most people live near the city of Vancouver Language: English and Chinese Climate: Marine west coast Buildings: Many buildings look like castles Economic activity: Forestry, shipping industry, mining and fishing

8 The Northern Region Population: biggest region with the fewest people with only about 100,00 people Language: English and Inuktitut Climate: tundra Buildings: igloos and houses Economic activity: some people live nomadically others have jobs in small villages

9 Game! Each group will be given a whiteboard the teacher will ask questions the group will discuss and then hold their boards up when they are told to do so. If the team gets the question right they will get a point. The winning team will receive candy!
