Changing Your Case Password And a few other words about IT Security

All Case accounts must change their passwords For security reasons, your Case password now has an expiration date; it will have to be changed every year A log of your past 5 passwords will be kept, preventing you from re-using them. (You can’t just toggle between a few passwords)

Not All Passwords Are Linked Case Single Sign-On, Case email, Case Calendar, etc, are all the same Password Your MSASS computer accounts, personal computer accounts and non- Case web accounts are separate

How to Change It www.case.edu/its/password Scroll through instructions (or, you know, read them!) and click on “Password Change” near the bottom of the page Fill out the form completely!

The Password Change Form Uncheck This

But Wait! We’re Not done yet! Now you should…

Change Your Saved Passwords! Many programs save your password for you and will not sign in with the new password until you remove the saved password! Every day you log into things with OTHER accounts - these passwords won’t change.

MSASS Passwords don’t change If your MSASS password is different than you case password: no change If it is the same, it will now be different, you can keep it that way or choose to change it so they match.

A List of Places You May Need to Change Your Password Email: Outlook Thunderbird Eudora mac mail delegate Websites Calendar: Outlook Connector Palm

System login network drives classroom login library login external devices home pc laptop iphone blackberry palms …And even more passwords!

To Make a Long Story Short If new password doesn’t work somewhere, try your old one Clear cache and saved passwords wherever possible - if nothing else you’ll know which password is which

Why are we doing this? The longer you use a password, the more likely it is to become compromised Relying on computers to remember our passwords for us results in a possible security hole - whoever can get to your desktop can use your saved passwords

Never E-mail your password There is no email way to change your password or verify your account. Email is insecure, sent more like a postcard than a letter - Case will never ask for your sensitive information via email, and no one in IT EVER needs to know your password

How Passwords Work Passwords are double-blind. IT can’t tell you your password - we can’t see it. We can only re-set it if it is forgotten Forgotten Case passwords can only be re-set via the online form or via ITS (not MSASS IT) - call 368-4357 if you forget your password for Case resources

Just to Re-Iterate Case Password Software Center Email ERP SIS Case Calendar MSASS Password Computer login Network drives Classroom login Library login

Also: If anyone, even Case IT, sends you an email with a link in it and you aren’t sure what it is do not click on it! It might be a clever ruse. If you don’t know, don’t click!
