1
Computer Science Fundamentals Course Introduction How to learn stuff from Mr. Kramer
2
Class Flow Lecture time – I talk, you listen – I demonstrate something – raise hand for questions Open time – Do the work I give – help each other understand – I’m wandering – raise hand or call me for help switching back and forth – light flicker
3
Lecture Protocol (Rules) Raise hand to speak – You need to hear what I say (duh) – You can say almost anything – quiet explaining to neighbors is ok No food or drink – liquids + computers = broken computers – food + computers = insects!
4
Protocol cont. Appropriate use of computers – only with permission – PCs don’t belong to us High Expectations – not much homework – I say what you need to know – your job to know it – questions are good
5
Even more Protocol bathroom/locker/office/nurse/sports – don’t ask – just walk up with your filled-out agenda – I can sign it quick without breaking flow Late work – Tests/Quizzes - Plan ahead if you can – HW – by end of marking period. 70% max. – Give an excuse AFTER giving me the work
6
Protocol Enforcement You get a warning Maybe 2 – good intentions Then a demerit Then I get creative
7
Behavior: Poopy vs. Awesome Selfishness & Disrespect Breaking protocol Meh. Just kind of there whiny, annoying, kiddie stuff “Is this gonna be on the test?” anything about grades not raising hand distracting others Maturity & Determination Explorations of the topic new ideas Mr. Kramer goofed - make a respectful argument “I don’t understand because…” Volunteer to do stuff Helping others during open time
