Getting Ready for Class
Stretch before you start dancing. Make sure to take off your shoes if you are doing hip hop. Take off all jewelry. Have your hair up in a bun or pony tail so it won’t be in your face when you’re dancing. Wear the right clothes to your class, like comfy clothes or a leotard. p.6

Origin of Dance In 200 BC the first examples of dance where found.
Dance has been mostly for entertainment, religious gatherings. p.7

Proper Nutrition 1. Weight training helps a dancer keep their body in shape. 2. Some foods would be brown rice, whole wheat, pasta, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, foods that have fat and protein. 3. Get 8 or more hours of sleep a night. p.8

Glossary Ballet- A type of dance that is all about poise and concentration, using bows and elegant form. Boogaloo- Weird movements with your feet and hips. Break dance moves- A type of street dance that is like hip hop only a little different. Cha Cha- Rhythmical Latin dance that has unique timing. p.9

Glossary Downrock- A type of dance with a lot of body movement and hands, arms, or a part of the torso is in contact with the floor. Footwork- Same as downrock but only your not doing power moves. Hip Hop- Djing, graffti, and breakdancing steps. Krumping- A fast dance that is free and highly energetic. p.10

Glossary Latin American dance- Rhythmical dances to Latin music
Locking- Locking limbs in time with the music; also a type of street dance. Moonwalk- A dance when they slid their feet backwards but appear to be walking. Swing dancing- Partner street dance where there is a leader and a follower. Tango- A cat- like dance that has flashy head movements and quick turns. p.11

Glossary Tutting- Using geometric movements, and in a stop-and-go fashion. The worm- When they are on the floor and they are moving like a worm but appear to be walking forward. Toprock- A dance that depends on flexibility and coordination while standing. Waltz- A slow elegant dance that has beautiful falls and turns. p.12
