Christchurch 2008 is its 7 th year 3 weeks long – September/October Celebration of Dance in all its forms Performances, dance films, workshops, master classes, meetings, outdoor events – something for everyone.

Dance is becoming more important: Dance is now a full NCEA subject in schools. Dance programmes are growing. Hillmorton has just added Year 9 and 10 Dance, for example. 10 years ago, Dance didn’t really exist in schools.

11. Shows like Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance are extremely high rating and several seasons have been made.

12. Some more unusual companies are getting funding. For example, Touch Compass, mixed ability dance group just go a six figure donation for them to obtain a permanent dance studio in Auckland.

13. * NZ Dancer Magazine reports that the numbers of men and boys enrolling in dance classes has grown since Dancing with the Stars and people like Norm Hewitt showing it’s okay for men to dance.
