P OTAWATOMI N ATIVE A MERICANS How did the Potawatomi adapt to there environment?

F OOD The Potawatomi farmed, gathered, and hunted for food. They farmed corn, beans, squash, lima beans, kidney beans and a few other things. Here are some of the things they gathered: wild rice, berries, plants. For hunting they hunted elk, deer, birds, and black bear.

S HELTER The Pohttawatomi lived in wigwams. (They also lived in lodges but they mostly lived in wigwams.) the wigwams were made out of birch bark. Every year in winter hunting season, they moved there wigwams. The wigwams were dome shapes, cone shapes, and rectangular shapes. http://www.bigorrin.org/potawatomi_kids.htm

C LIMATE & W EATHER the Potawatomi had four seasons. The summers were hot and humid. The winters were cold and snowy.

N ATURAL R ESOURCES the Potawatomi's natural resources were water, trees, and animals. They used the water for drinking, washing, and fishing. They used the trees for making wigwams and for making canoes. They used the animals for eating.

C LOTHING They wore beaded leggings made of cloth or skins of animals. They also wore moccasins made of skins.

I NTERESTING F ACTS The Potawatomi joined two tribes called Ojibwa, and Ottawa. They formed a confederacy called The Three Fires. Also, they were the earliest farmers.
