Introduction Introduction Saying goodbye can occur anytime and anywhere. Everyone may say goodbye to his parents, his wife, his child, his friends and etc. at anytime. But saying goodbye is never easy, you have to have time and find way to overcome the lose from saying goodbye and adjust yourself to come back to the normal life so that you may get away the influence brought from saying goodbye.

Meaning: My parents have gone to Florida to live a quiet life, and I am suffering from it because the house seems empty. Please notice that “empty nest” usually refers to the situation that parents are in when their children have left home. retire: vi. go away to a quiet or less central place 隐退 e.g. In the evenings, she retired to her study to work. 到了晚上,她回到书房去工作。 e.g. He often retires to the countryside to work on his book. 他常常躲到乡下去写书。

part of me/him, etc.: used when you have many different feelings or thoughts about something, so it is difficult to decide what you feel or what you should do 我 / 他有 点儿 …… e.g. Part of me wants to leave, but I know he will be unhappy if I do. 我有点儿想离开,但我知道如这样做,他会不开心。 e.g. Part of him wants to marry her. 他有点儿想跟她结婚。

Meaning: I feel tense and angry deep inside, though I know this is an unreasonable response. Please notice that “the child inside” is a metaphor, referring to her deep feelings. hold one‘s breath: breathe in and not let the air out for some time 屏住呼吸 e.g. How long can you hold your breath? 你屏气能屏多长时间? e.g. We held our breath while the teacher read the exam results. 老师宣读成绩时,我们都屏息静听。
