2 EQ & Objectives EQ Can we research areas of health sciences— forensic science? Objectives TLW: Use deductive reasoning to solve a crime. Create a model/method for collecting evidence at a crime scene. Learn how do document evidence from a crime scene.

3 Vocab Reference: Forensic Odontologist

4 Forensic Odontology: Forensic Dentists Experiment #1: Chart each other’s teeth—You must TYPE all comments! –Count how many teeth are present –Mark missing teeth –Mark damaged teeth (cracks, fillings, crowns, etc.) –You must use the correct names and locations of the teeth in your recordings –Note discoloration of teeth –Note direction of teeth, such as turned inward or outward, widely spaced, close together, crowding, etc. –Note cutting surfaces (smooth, uneven, or inclined) –Note the bite in relation to the teeth of the upper jaw and lower jaw when they come together (under bite or overbite) If you are a group of 3, one person will be the dentist, one will be the assistant, and one will be the patient. If you are a group of 4, you will have two assistants, one dentist, and one patient. Switch places until all group members have been charted. DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON YOUR DENTAL RECORDS!!!

5 Forensic Odontology: Forensic Dentists Experiment #2: You as a Forensic Odontologist have been called in on an airplane crash to identify bodies. The other students in the classroom are the unidentified bodies. You will use the unidentified bodies and patient charts to identify a corpse. You must wear gloves. Keep track of the case numbers that did not match the victim by recording these case numbers on your experiment sheet. Once you make a match, record the case number and student name. If all bodies have not been identified, try to match another one.
