2. 1.Find either a rock or mineral that best describes your personality. 2.Find a good picture of that rock or mineral. Your will need a picture that is 3 inches by 3 inches. 3.The final paper is due on Thursday. It must be completed as directed. Points will be deducted for not follow directions. Hand write your final paper. You may email MrsMallay @Mallay.com me and I will print out your rock picture for you. 4.Any rock or mineral that is not used by someone else in the grade (both classes) will receive 5 bonus points! Name of rock in large letters at the top of the page Your name and class number Write the type of rock or word: mineral – Your first paragraph should explain scientifically what your rock/mineral is: The rock’s type (igneous/sedimentary/metamorphic) and its physical characteristics. The mineral’s 8 classification points – Your second paragraph should Compare yourself to your rock/mineral with this specific information.

4. Phyllite Mrs. Mallay A metamorphic rock The rock that I believe most represents me is a metamorphic rock. There are several reasons for this comparison. Metamorphic rocks are “new” rocks that have been created from igneous, sedimentary, or even other metamorphic rocks. These types of rocks have been modified by heat, pressure, and chemical processes; usually while buried deep below the Earth's surface. Exposure to these extreme conditions has altered the mineralogy, texture, and chemical composition of the rocks. This doesn’t occur over night. Rather it takes millions of years for the process to complete. Phyllite is a foliate metamorphic rock that is made up mainly of very fine-grained mica. The surface of phyllite is typically lustrous and sometimes wrinkled, just like me! The foliated layers remind me of the many ways I have changed over my life. These life changes have occurred for a variety of reasons and have help make me the person I am today. This rock is also described as having a glittery luster. I don’t usually consider myself as glittery. However, I have been known, on occasion, to out shine the people around me.
