1 Hyperbole and a Half: Menace By: Allie Brosh Ryan Gingras, Lorenzo Rose, Connor Quatannens, and Kathleen Stuart

2 Summarization A child becomes obsessed with the sense of power they receive when they put on a dinosaur costume. Once their behavior starts to spin out of control, their teacher and parents intervene and take the costume away. The child then feels powerless without the costume but is forced to adjust back to their normal lifestyle.

3 Elements Color: Bright and Vibrant Drawing style: Crude, elementary Layout: Comic style, linear narrative Text/Font: Dialogue is handwritten within the comic as well as any onomatopoeia

4 Background no background to story making/blog posting, but... while studying for a physics final, Brosh got bored, then decided to entertain herself by making a blog

5 Context Stories are true Usually from a childhood memory This specific dinosaur story is from her as a child, feeling untapped power through a Halloween costume.

6 Theme Major theme: powers ability to corrupt the mind, particularly in regards to youth. “power” in this case is a dinosaur costume being worn by a small child Represents the larger idea that power, and even courage to an extent, can come from unexpected places in different people. Author gains confidence and tenacity when wearing the dinosaur costume.

7 Tone Lighthearted Author purposefully tells story in a childlike manner, because the story takes place when she was a child Humorous tone is then set for the length of the story

8 Audience versatile - could be for children,young adults, or adults children respond to the blunt, simple language, and bright colors, identify with the silliness of the story adults can sense underlying sarcasm, also value the silliness/unique illustrations sends universal message
