A glimpse into the life and work of ATLAS physicists working At ATLAS/CERN, Geneva, Switzerland.

The Installation Concept This installation invites the viewer to meet physicists as people, to see a bit of their daily work and what they are searching for. In the end, the questions they are trying to answer, with their complex apparatus and multinational collaboration, are the ones that everyone would also like to understand. Format Interactive Zone at the entrance/exit –Big Questions 4 simultaneous audiovisual displays on 4 walls; content: –Physicists as individuals –The Collaboration –Daily Work –The Goal – Collision Event Display

Big Questions The entrance will portray a large image of a black board with questions such as “Where do we come from?” printed on it. At the exit there will be a real black board where the public can add their own questions with chalk.

Technical Details Four individual projections –16:9 High Definition Video (1920x1080 or 1440x1080) –Projection distance ~4m –Projected image width ~2.2m (2.5m diagonal) –Image offset (from center of projector) ~1m Required Equipment –4 HD projectors –1 Sound system with 4 outputs (one per projection) –Projection support 4 Bluray High Definition DVD Players -or- 4 individual computers -or- 1 computer with support for 4 monitors

Opening The opening of the installation is planned for the end of 2010 in the Bergen Museum, Norway. The Bergen Museum is part of the University of Bergen, and it houses one of the largest collections of cultural and natural history objects in Norway. A large renovation project has now been launched for the museum buildings. The aim of the project is to be able to offer modern exhibitions, exciting educational experiences and various types of science communication about culture and nature to the public. http://www.uib.no/bergenmuseum/en The university of Oslo has also shown interested to host the installation in Oslo city.
