OPERATION SUKUMA SAKHE The priority areas of the programme are to address: Food Security Fighting diseases in particular HIV and AIDS and TB and Poverty Empowerment of Women and Youth, addressing social ills( substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, HIV and AIDS, gender based violence, crime, road accidents and driving an aggressive behaviour change

OPERATION SUKUMA SAKHE (OSS) – A WARD BASED APPROACH Community participation Behaviour change, including Human Rights Integration of government services through the ward teams Economic activity linked to job creation and infrastructure development Environmental care HIV, AIDS, STI AND TB interventions in the wards Approach to implementation of the Plan in KwaZulu-Natal

KZN Office of the Premeir Response KZN is the second populous province in SA. The Province has the highest burden of diseases associated with underdevelopment and poverty.

KZN Office of the Premeir Functional Structures ( AIDS Council) The Provincial Council on AIDS is fully functional 82% of the District AIDS Councils are fully operational 53% of Local AIDS Councils are fully functional. Linked to OSS Structures.

KZN Office of the Premeir Roles and responsibilities of the coordinating structures (DAC/LAC) Serve as the leading District Municipal public advocate to create an enabling environment Monitor and evaluate Report to the Provincial AIDS Council. Establish and maintain community feedback mechanisms Co-ordinate the implementation of the comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS Develop a District Municipal plan based on Provincial Plan Review program development and progress

KZN Office of the Premeir Roles and responsibilities of the coordinating structures DAC Review and approve the annual work plans. Facilitate multi sectoral and inter-departmental collaboration in the campaign against HIV & AIDS; Facilitate capacity building for the different sectors Mobilize financial and technical resources Commission relevant research Facilitate establishment of Local AIDS Councils and Ward AIDS Committees
