2 Purposes of the Pool Provide an opportunity for students to learn about psychological research Assist faculty, graduate students, and honours students with research and teaching in some courses Contribute to knowledge Detailed information can be found in the Participant Manual on the Psychology Department homepage –Go to Participant Pool  Information for undergraduate students

3 Research Participation Bonus Points Bonus Point system 30 minutes = 0.5 points 60 minutes = 1 point 90 minutes =1.5 points 120 minutes = 2 points 150 minutes = 2.5 points 180 minutes = 3 points

4 How Research Participation Affects Your Marks Increases your final mark by X% –X = # of Bonus Points allowed & earned Example: –Participant A’s final mark was 78% (B+) –Participant A completed 3 credits worth of research studies (180 minutes) –Participant A’s final mark now becomes 78% + 3% = 81% (A-)

6 Registration Process Create/reactivate account Select your course(s) Complete the Pre-Screen Questionnaire Note: ALL of these steps must be completed in order for you to use the Participant Pool in any given term

8 Must use your uwindsor.ca email address Select correct course(s) –Make sure section # is correct Password e- mailed to you –Change it to something you will remember Hold CTRL to choose multiple courses

9 Already Have an Account? Your password remains the same across semesters, unless you choose to change it – You may do this at any time If you lost your password, use the “Lost password” function on the Participant Pool homepage. Further difficulties? Email psycpool@uwindsor.ca

13 Registering is not an Obligation to Participate Register even if you do not plan to participate in a study You do not have to sign up for a study if you register If you do not register by the deadline (the end of the FIRST two weeks of the semester), you will NOT have the option to participate in studies if you change your mind

14 Signing Up For Studies Studies are available now. New studies will be posted throughout the term so check the system periodically Studies are posted by researchers, not the Participant Pool administrators. It is not possible to request that more studies be added at any given point during the term.

15 Signing Up For Studies A list of studies with their credit values and open time slots will appear Click on “Timeslots Available” box to the left of studies of interest.

17 Pick a time & the course bonus points should be credited to (can change later) –You should get a confirmation e-mail Signing Up For Studies

18 Viewing or Cancelling Appointments

19 To cancel an appointment, you must do so at least 24 hours before the scheduled time

20 Cancelling Appointments Penalties –If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or do not show for the study, you will be assigned a negative credit value equal to number of credits the study was worth. –You must provide a reasonable explanation (e.g., illness, emergency) to avoid the penalty. Contact the researcher directly.

21 Assigning Bonus Points to Courses YOU are responsible for assigning Bonus Points to your courses. –Final allocation deadline: Last day of classes (see website for date) –You can change bonus point allocation before the deadline Print screen for proof of Bonus Point allocations

23 Concerns If you have any concerns that you cannot resolve with a researcher (after talking to the researcher), contact psycpool@uwindsor.ca –Examples: Credits not assigned within 48 hours Experimenters not showing up

25 Important Dates Check the website for the exact dates Beginning of termRegistration opens Until the last day of official classes Studies available After the first 2 weeks of the term Participant registration period closes Last day of official classes Pool closes, 5pm; assign bonus points ASAP. Last day of official classes Credit assignments by participants due by 11:59pm.
