2. Sophomore Social Studies Requirements 40 weeks of the NYS Regents course Global Studies and Geography At Kenmore West there are three different options to meet this requirement: 1.Regents Global Studies Course 2.Honors Global Studies Course 3.A.P. European History

3. Course Requirements: 1 Credit Course NYS required Regents examination in June that covers content from 9 th grade AND 10 th grade Exam is the same format as 9 th grade Global Studies Exam: 50 Multiple Choice Questions 1 Thematic Essay 1 Document Based Essay

4. Honors Global Studies Prerequisites : A final average of 90% in Global 9, consistent attendance, and high level of reading comprehension, analytical thinking ability, teacher recommendation and completion of summer reading assignment. The student MUST PASS the summer reading test

5. Honors Global Studies Coursework : students will participate in some simulations, debates, and problem solving activities to understand modern times. Understanding how our 21 st century landscape developed out of a century of war, communism and independence movements Research of modern history topics weaving current events into a study of the 20 th century world

6. A.P. European History “ dare to know” Emanuel Kant Prerequisites: For juniors and seniors; a 85% in Global 10, teacher recommendation, and an advanced ability to read and write. Sophomores: A 85% average in Global 9 Honors, teacher recommendation, and advanced ability to read and write. Summer assignment? There is no summer reading assignment

7. A.P. European History “If I have seen farther than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants” -Sir Isaac Newton ---cool things about the course: This class is worth 2 college classes if you pass the exam with a 3 or better; That’s 6 credit hours You will be taught, how to take college level notes, analyze primary source material and to think critically All the dirt, scandals and stories your global teachers were not able to tell you Mr. Knight teaches it; he’s nuts

8. A.P. European History Teacher: Mr. Knight Future Applications: This course touches many cross curricular themes; English, science, politics, economics and math. We study the historical causation for the development of all these areas of study. 9. Future Possibilities in Social Studies You must successfully complete four years of Social Studies and pass the 2 NYS Regents examinations. However there are many electives and Advanced Placement courses you can take to further enrich your education here at Kenmore West!!
