WORSHIP WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
2
TRUE WORSHIP 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” - The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton: Standard Bible Society, 2001), Jn 4:19–26.

TRUE WORSHIP Worship in spirit Worship in truth Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

TRANSFORMING PRINCIPLE OF WORSHIP

3 TYPES OF PEOPLE Those who worship others Those who worship themselves Those who worship God “You shall not fear other gods or bow yourselves to them or serve them or sacrifice to them, 36 but you shall fear the L ORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm. You shall bow yourselves to him, and to him you shall sacrifice” (2 Kings 17:35

Worship thrives on wonder. We can admire, admire, appreciate and perhaps even adore someone without a sense of wonder. But we cannot worship without wonder. For worship to be worship it must contain something about the otherness of God God is so pure, matchless and unique that no one else and nothing else even comes close. He is altogether glorious, unequalled in splendor and unrivalled in power. He is beyond the grasp of human reason far above the reach of even the loftiest scientific mind. Inexhaustible, Immeasurable and Unfathomable. Eternal, Immortal and Invisible. The highest mountain peaks and the deepest canyon depths are just tiny echoes of His proclaimed greatness. And the blazing stars above, only the faintest emblems of the full measure of His glory"

RICK WARREN SAYS “In today's competitive culture we are taught to never give up and never give in-so we don't hear much about surrendering. If winning is everything, surrendering is unthinkable. We would rather talk about winning, succeeding, overcoming, and conquering than yielding, submitting, obeying, and surrendering. But surrendering to God is the heart of worship. It is the natural response to God's amazing love and mercy. We give ourselves to him, not out of fear or duty, but in love, "because he first loved us." “Offering yourself to God is what worship is all about.”

BIBLICAL CORPORATE WORSHIP 1.We can only worship in the Holy Sprit (12:3) 2.Everyone is given a gift from God to give and contribute (12:6). 3.These gifts are given for common good (12:7) 4.The Holy Spirit is the one who decided who gets what gifts, not us, he gives it as he wills (12:11) 5.Every member and gift is equal before God. The Pastor is not more important than a member of the church. (12:14-20) 6.Each person has a unique gift to give, a unique role to play and a unique contribution to make in order for the church to function. (12:21-31)
12
BIBLICAL CORPORATE WORSHIP 7.We have to do all this in love or else it is of no use. The motivation is more important than the person or the gift. (13:1-13) 8.In a corporate setting pursue gifts that benefit others rather than your self. Tongues and Prophecy are equally important and are given by the same God, but in church you rather ask God that you would prophecy rather than speak in a tongue because, “the one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, but the one who prophecies builds the church” (14:1- 19) 9.If God does lead you to speak in a tongue, ask him for an interpretation (14:13) or else it will not benefit anyone. 10.Be considerate to the people who attend from outside, especially the non-Christians. (14:23-25)

TRUE WORSHIP IS ABOUT GOD GIVING The HEART

MATT REDMAN SAYS “Every posture says something of both the worshipper and the one being glorified in. The raising of hands tells of a soul stretched out high in praise and the worth of the one being exalted. Joyful dancing interprets a grateful heart and points in adoration to the source of that joy. When it comes to expressing our worship, what we do on the outside is a key reflection of what is taking place on the inside. Out of the overflow of the heart we speak and sing, we dance and we bow. God reveals and we respond. God shines and we reflect.”

PSALM 24:3-6 3 Who shall ascend the hill of the L ORD ? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 5 He will receive blessing from the L ORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
