2 READING What is the difference between cause and effect?
Example: Smoking can lead to lung cancer. * The player got a red card after committing a foul. * She studied very hard and got an ‘A’ on the exam. * The baby cried because it was hungry. * The man missed the bus because he overslept.

4 READING It’s very important to understand the difference between fact and speculation (guess). * I think it might rain today. * The Mona Lisa is a painting by Da Vinci. * Ahmad believes that aliens exist. * In 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait. * The earth could have had dinosaurs living in the past.

5 WRITING Paraphrasing is an important skill that all students need in their university lives. Paraphrasing means rewriting information in your own words. Example... Original - Any trip to Italy should include a visit to Sicily to sample their pleasant-tasting pizza. Paraphrase - Be sure to try the delicious pizzas in Sicily when visiting Italy.
