is a national retail store that offers a wide variety of general merchandise. Wal-Mart has 36 departments including family apparel, health and beauty aids, household needs, electronics, toys, fabrics and crafts, lawn & garden, jewelry and shoes. Also some stores have pharmacy department, tire & lube express, snack bar, One hour photo, and vision center. Wal-Mart operate on an “every day low prices” philisophy and have a high control in low prices.

Also have supercenters. Wal- Mart supercenters were designed for one stop family shopping convenience. These stores count with grocery department and many of them have 24 hour service.

Sam Walton opened his first store in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas. At the beginning the ordering process was very rustic and took it a lot time because they did not have enough technology. had lack of personnel to achieve the inventory and ordering process.

They had a few suppliers because at that time there were not much competence. At that time the communication made impossible that the products arrive on time. Communication systems were very expensive and low quality.

Also methods of transportation were very insufficient because there were not enough common carriers for the delivery of the supplies.

has long been an innovator. Technology and information science are among company’s most innovative areas. Their computer system is the most powerful in the corporate world, only the US Government has a larger computer network.Systems have given to Wal-Mart competitiveness and success.

Wal-Mart has a great ordering process due to their scanning procedure every time they sell a product their suppliers acknowledge their inventory and are aware of the amount of supplies they might ahead of time.

Future Wal-Mart will be able to develop a system where they would be able to restock their inventory without having to inform anybody about the inventory being low.

Conclusion loves to test new ideas and has a little resistance to change.
