1
The start of a long and dusty drive to the Nitinat River. Following close behind me was Gerry Stevens Wayne Legge and Harold Tinling. Leading the expedition was Bob Kissinger.
2
Boats hauled down the bank in preparation for launching. No bodies in evidence so one could conclude that this aged group had settled in for a morning nap?
3
Gerry and Harold had waited patiently while the rest of us moved vehicles to the takeout point. They did look rested when we returned.
4
Finally on our way. This is the bridge just downstream from our launch point and the ONLY part of the river where the winds were under gale force.
5
Wayne Legge coming through a typical section of rapids. The water was low and crystal clear similar to most island rivers.
6
Harold and Wayne fighting the winds that threatened to blow them back upstream....
7
Wayne Legge, Gerry Stevens and Bob Kissinger breaking out the lunch on a sandy beach covered with Elk tracks
8
Wayne Legge, Gerry Stevens, Mike Orr and Harold Tinling at the lunch break spot. Beautiful hole in the background. No fish.....
9
Mike Orr in one of the long slicks that had to be rowed through. The constant winds made for an interesting exercise
10
Gerry Stevens hard at work rowing DOWNSTREAM
11
Finally reached the first possible takeout spot at the infamous Red Rock shown by Bob Kissinger. All it required was a volunteer to walk 4-5 kilometers to get the vehicles. No hands were raised......
12
Wayne Legge playing the LARGEST fish of the trip. He soundly out fished all the rest of the group by catching not only the largest but also the most fish.
