6 “Big” Preliminary decisions: Wholly online / hybrid? Synchronous / Asynchronous? Text-based / Lecture-based? Interactive / work-alone? (You may not have choice in all of these) Preliminary questions III

7 The “unit” (also: “module”): A defined topic, time period and assignments. How many units? (and as a result – how long a course?) Duration of units The value of uniformity The one-topic focus of each unit The Unit

8 (This depends on your choices above, but here are the basics) A Learning Management System (or – creativity!) A syllabus A set of topics A timeframe, broken down to units Material for each unit What you’ll need (for the course):

9 Introduction to the topic (text/video) List of assignments: Reading material, video lectures, discussion forums, assessed work Areas for each assignment – a discussion forum, an assignment page, etc. Can also include: Exercises, simulations, video clips, etc. What you’ll need (for each unit)
