3 Why a Book Trailer  Promotes the reading and literacy process  More engaging than a standard book report  Can be done before a book is read or after the book is read  Helps to encourage others to want to read the book  Allows for individual creativity of the student

4 Why use Windows Movie Maker?  Allows teachers the benefits of multimedia in the classroom to engage students and increase retention and promotes literacy.  Easily available and free to download with MS windows!  Easy to use with pre-existing or new images  Interactive and engaging tool that can implement several standards within several academic disciplines.

5 Before We Start  Discuss with students what a book trailer is  Suggest they may have seen something similar with a movie trailer, television shows  May want to include suggested titles, favorite books, books they have read, genres of interest  Show a brief power point discussing what the steps of the process will be

6 What Should I Do First?  Begin the PowerPoint with a short MovieMaker video that has been inserted into the PowerPoint presentation. Make sure the topic of the movie is something that will capture your audience’s attention.  Walk through the PowerPoint step by step and include screen shots

9 At This Point  Students will need to begin adding pictures, sound clips, narrations and any other info they may feel is relevant  Sites of interest: Jamendo.com (music)  Google.com (for images)  Classroomclipart.com

10 Instructional Technology Specialist Roles  She should be monitoring students in case anyone has questions.  Some students may work cooperatively, it depends on the ability level of the students  Media specialist should be prepared to make a quick movie including up to 3 slides, to demonstrate how easy it is

12 After Publishing  Realistically, the final product may not be complete in the first day. It may take up to two days for students to finalize their final product.  The final results should be shared with the other class members

13 The Book I Chose Has  High interest level, grades 6-8  Grade level equivalent of 5.5  Lexile Framework 1000  Appeals to ages: 11-13  Genre: Historical fiction, Adventure, Classics  A Newbury Medal Award winner
