Temelin - history 1980 - Czechoslovakian goverment accredit the construction of Temelin nuclear powerplant. 1985 – Energoprojekt company elaborate project documentation for construction. 1987 – Construction started 1990 – Constrution was reduced. The goverment accredited construction of just 2 units instead of 4, planed originally. 2000 – Construction finished 2002 – Trial operation of first unit. 2003 – Trial operation of second unit. 2004 – 13,4 TWh pruduced by temelin

Geography 510 above the see level Largely surrounded by forests 45 – 50 km far from state boundary (Austria, Germany) 143ha piece of land (on hand ČEZ a.s.)

Technical parameters of reactor Reactor Type VVER 1000 Installed capacity2 x 1000 MW Heigh od pressure tank 10,9 m Inner diameter of pressure tank 4,1. Outter 4,5 Total weight 800t 163 fuel cartridges (766kg, 563 kg of fuel) 4 cooling loops (15,7 Mpa – operating pressure) Temperature of the cooling medium in front of the entrance to active zone – 290°C Temperature of the cooling medium in the output from to active zone – 320°C Discharge 84 600 m 3/h Inner diameter of major recirculation line 850 mm Outer diameter of major recirculation line 995 mm

Steam turbines Steam turbine: nominal rpm - 3000 Steam discharge (100% of power) 5262,9 t/min Coling shafts: Height: 154,8 m Foundation diameter: 130,7 m Crest diameter: 82,6 m Thickness of wall: 0,9 – 0,18 m Weight: 27 500 t

Planed annex of Temelin Last years, the nuclear power is epericing the rebirth all around the world. Annex of Temelin (another 2 units quarantee coverage of increasing consumption of electricity after 2020, sufficient reserve of power for stability of electric grid) Original project – 4 units (build-up of remaining 2 units fully exploit originally designed infrastructure Price of project still unknown (after concractor selection procedure) Own sources of ČEZ (bank loan)
9
Technology – new units Several variants. Pressure water reactor (PWR). II and III generation Temelin and dukovany – II generation AES-2006 – derived from previous two units Atomstroyexport and Gidropress companies 1113 MW
10
Areva EPR Developed by AREVA company Derived from N4 and Konvoi reactors actually in operation in France and Germany 1600 Mw Westinghouse AP1000 Developed by Westinghouse company. 50 years of experiences. F.e. 4 block in China actually in construction 1117 MW
11
Nuclear waste depository in CR Responsibility for safety deposition comply with atomic law. 50 CZK / MWh of electricity produced in nuclear power plants. All financial resources are cumulated in „atomic account“ which provide money for all liabilities connected to nuclear waste depository. Majority of wastes produced by nuclear power plants are low activity nuclear wastes (lost its activity in several hundreds of years) Bigest radioactive waste disposal – Dukovany (55 000 m3) Sufficient capacity for whle lifetime of Temelin and Dukovany
12
Atomic energy around the world February 2010: –29 countries –436 nuclear reactors in operation –Total instaled power 372 693 MW –15 % of all electricity produced (worldwide) –53 reactors in 13 countries in construction –142 reactors construction are in project stage –Totaly 327 rectors planned worldwidely (343 000 MW) USA, France, Japan, Russia, etc. 65% of PWR reactors worldwidely
