Benefits of Physical Activity
Cardiovascular System Strengthens heart muscle, allowing it to pump blood more efficiently

Continued… Respiratory System Able to breathe larger amounts of air
Muscle used in respiration don’t tire easily Ex: Run farther with out being out of breath

Continued… Nervous System Respond more quickly to stimuli
Physical activity can improve reaction time

Inactivity More than 1 and 3 teens are not active
Activity declines in teen years 73% of 9th graders 61% of 12th graders

Osteoporosis – decrease in bone density, producing porous and fragile bones Reduced ability to manage stress Decreased opportunity to meet and form friendships

Ability of the heart, lungs, blood vessels to utilize and send fuel and oxygen to the body’s tissues during long periods of moderate-to vigorous activity

Muscular Endurance The ability of the muscles to perform physical tasks over a period of time without becoming fatigued
