Huey Long (who wants to be president) comes up with a plan to “Share the Wealth” to help end the Great Depression. Proposed high taxes on the wealthy and large corporations and the redistribution of their income to the poor Americans. Assassinated before election of 1936 Would you vote for Roosevelt or Long? Why?

The Court-Packing Bill SSHSUH18e
Supreme Court was resistant to FDR’s programs and struck down many of his ideas. FDR came up with an idea (called Court-Packing Bill): He would increase the number of Supreme Court justices from 9 to 15. Then pack the court full of people who agree with his ideas so they would pass. Opposition called FDR a dictator and socialists so he withdrew his request.

Social Security Act: Program that provides pension (money) for retired workers and spouses, aides people with disabilities, poor mothers w/ dependent children, needy elderly. Wagner Act: passed to protect organized labor. Allows people the rights to unionize.
