Some facts about Varaždin - Varaždin is a city in North Croatia - It has the population of almost 47,000 people - The centre of the city is near the Drava river. - It’s known for its baroque buildings, music, food etc. - In 1767 Varaždin was declared the capital of Croatia, but after the big fire in 1776 the goverment was moved to Zagreb (current capital). 3. St Nicholas Church -This church was built in the Middle Ages - It is the main church in Varaždin - It’s a Dominican church

4. The Cathedral of the Assumption of the B.V. Mary - This cathedrale is the most visited cathedrals in Varaždin - The famous Baroque Nights take place in there

5. National Croatian Theatre - It was built in 1873 by an Austrian architect - There are many plays and performances played there

6. - This is the Meteorology Post - Last autumn was the 100th year of its existence - It shows: temperature, air presure, the rose od wind, the time and humidity - This is the Varaždin library - It was built in the 18th century and has more than 2500 books

9. - This is, how we call it, “Stari grad”. The literal translation is “ the old town”. - Earls Celjski lived in it - It is now used as a museum - It’s one of the most visited attractions in Varaždin

10. Dućanska ulica - In the history of Varaždin, this street was always full of different shops and stores and that’s why it’s called The Shop Street (=Dućanska ulica, dućan=shop) - There are still many stores just like before

11. Vatroslav Jagić’s Park -This park is the biggest park in Varaždin and a lot of young people often come here and hang out

12. Varaždin Korzo Varaždin Korzo is the main square in Varaždin There is a city hall, Drašković palace, some shops and a few coffee bars

13. Grgur Ninski statue Grgur Ninski was a bishop from a town called Nin Children from everywhere rub his golden toe and make a wish, hoping that he will make their wish come true
