Hitler and His Views Born in Austria 4/20/1889 Wanted to be an artist, but was rejected Served 4 years in WWI 1919 joined the German Workers’ Party 1921-Hitler had control of party and renamed it National Socialist German Workers’ Party or NAZI for short 55,000 members-15,000 in the party militia known as Brown Shirts Tried to overthrow the government in Nov. 1923 Beer Hall Putsch Served jail time Wrote Mein Kampf-My Struggle

The NAZI party expanded to become a national political party Became largest party in the Reichstag unemployment rose Great Depression people believed The NAZI’s take control President Hindenburg appointed Hitler chancellor in 1933 Enabling Act Reichstag allowed government to suspend the constitution for 4 years to put the country back together
