Not a Lazy-Boy 20,000 colonial troops began to move to Massachusetts and General Gage Moved British troops to Boston Ethan Allen led the Patriot attack on Fort Ticonderoga and captured the British Artillery Shortly After, the Second Continental Congress met to Organize a Continental Army led by George Washington The congress also began to print paper Money and act like a true government

Archie’s Place The patriots capture Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill and begin to fortify the area The Militia on top of Breed’s Hill defended the Hill and the British Would Retreat After their Second Charge the British would win back Bunker Hill but lose over 1000 troops The Colonial Militia proved they could fight with British Troops

In hopes for peace the colonies sent the Olive Branch Petition to the king asking him to restore Harmony The King would reject the petition and punish the colonies with new Blockades and the Use of Hessians in the colonies The Colonial Army, under George Washington, would not be able to match up against the British Forces

Splitting Paine Thomas Paine Published Common Sense to help Gain support for Independence Paine Criticized that kings ruled by the will of God and challenged the Corrupt Monarchies that ruled the Colonies Common Sense sold over 100,000 copies and pushed the independence Movement Forward

Liberty Belle of the Ball The 13 Colonies began to create their own governments and started the move to become independent Thomas Jefferson would lead a committee to Draft the Declaration of Independence due to his writing talents and to gain the support of Virginia Richard Henry Lee’s resolution of Independence would be passed and the colonies would remain free and Independent

Bring on the Fireworks!! The Declaration would be Adopted on July 4 th, 1776 and was signed by John Hancock The Document relied heavily on the works of John Locke Every Man would gain the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness with the government assigned to protect those rights

Fight…For your right…to FREEDOM Jefferson made sure that the government would protect the rights of the people and give people the right to overthrow the government Declaring the colonies free was seen as an act of treason and the members of the continental congress could be hanged for their actions The Colonists would risk their lives, fortunes and honor for independence For True independence however, it would have to be won on the Battlefield
