Living on an island makes us realise how important it is for us being surrounded by water. We have a magnificent coastline which is defined on one hand by beautiful beaches and on the other by many ports.
3
There are ports whose main activity is economic, for example the port of our capital, Port of Santa Cruz
4
we also have another kind of ports which are more used for hobbies and pleasure and those are the marinas, for example: Port Colón, Port of the Cristianos, Ports of Radazul, Port of Los Acantilados, etc.
5
We also have fishing docks like the one in Puerto de la Cruz.
6
Let’s start with the harbours with an economic importance. Three important ports on our island: One had its activity in the PAST, that is the port of Garachico
7
at PRESENT we have our port of Santa Cruz in the FUTURE we will probably have the port of Granadilla
8
when one old port, Port of Garachico, was at the peak of its activity. The port was the most important one in the island in the XVI and XVII centuries. Its natural emplacement favoured the safety of the ships. The volcano erupted and buried the whole town and its port. It was then that the activity in the port was taken to Santa Cruz.
9
The port of Tenerife in the PAST: From 1848 to 1950, the port of Santa Cruz became the most popular port for the trade and the economy of the island.
10
In the past, this port was important for the trade of two products, the cochineal and the coal. Process of drying cochineal. Some people gathering cochineal
11
At PRESENT, the activity in the port is based on passengers transport and goods transport. This port receives big transatlantics from abroad and those ships which transport passengers to the South of the mainland as well as to some other islands, especially Gran Canaria.
12
We have a FUTURE harbour, the Port of Granadilla, in the south of Tenerife. To build this port means good and bad things. many people are against it.
13
In relation to the marinas, we can say that we have many, but there is one marina we specially like and that is the one in Radazul. Building future marinas means a great impact on our coast and we should think if that is worth doing for our own pleasure.
14
Our favourite Aquatics parks are: Loro Parque and Octopus. These parks are situated far away from our city. The Loro Parque is in the north of Tenerife, in Puerto de la Cruz. We visited the Loro Parque this year. It was great!! HAVING FUN!!!!!
15
The Octopus is in the south of Tenerife in Adeje. It’s very big and a fantastic aquatic park.
