Mont-Saint-Michel was built under Bishop Aubert of Avranges, who thought that an angel had told him to construct it on a 300-foot rock. It was constructed in 1879, at the request of Archangel Michael.

Mont-Saint-Michel was built on the north coast of France, near the border of Brittany and Normandy. The castle sits upon the gulf of Saint Malo.

One of the most important special features is the spire on the very top of the castle. The statue is depicted as Saint Michael. The castle also contains a dungeon, and a historical abbey that has been through numerous fires and restorations. Mont-Saint-Michel is also surrounded by quicksand. In addition, the castle has a sanctuary honoring Archangel Michel and a medieval alleyway.
5
The castle was used in the 6 th & 7 th centuries as a stronghold of Romono-British culture, until it was taken over by the Franks. Mont-Saint-Michel is currently used as a museum and tour site. Around the time it was finished, the castle served as a way to preserve the freedom of the people and provided protection for those who wanted shelter.
6
The castle is still almost completely intact as of today.
9
Not many families have lived in the castle.
