14 What Can Be Done To Reduce Drinking Water Risks Related To Forest Fires?  Forest fires are among the most serious threats to water quality ……..and in many cases to the water supply itself.  EPA’s Source Water Assessment Process (SWAP) must include an assessment of the risk to public health from drinking water contaminants derived from forested areas that have or someday will be impacted by forest fires.

15 What Can Be Done To Reduce Drinking Water Risks Related To Forest Fires?  Conservation or Preservation  BMPs  Put “forest management” back into the hands of professional forest managers.

16 On-going Concerns and Questions  What if there isn’t enough water to duck?  What are the post-fire impacts on the receiving reservoirs and streams?  How long will it take to return to “normal”?  Are there forest management practices that will produce a healthy on-going balance that supports sustained yield and protects water quality?

17  Should SDWA and CWA regulations receive special priority in land use management policy decisions?  Should federal land use management agencies be held accountable for their forest management decisions in civil proceedings related to public health issues and/or federal laws governing water quality? On-going Concerns and Questions
