Paul’s Victorious Life
2 Timothy 4:6-8
2
He Looked Around (2 Tim 4:6)
“For I am already being poured out (kjv – am ready to be offered) as a drink offering” Spendomai – to pour out as a libation, to devote (one’s life or blood, as a sacrifice) (“spend”): Paul lived as Jesus lived (Phil 2:7-8; John 10:17-18)
3
He Looked Around (2 Tim 4:6)
“The time of my departure is at hand.” Analusis – a loosing up or off (committed to end) “To hoist an anchor & set sail” “To take down a tent” (2 Cor 5:1) “The loosing of a prisoner” “The unyoking of an ox”
4
He Looked Back (2 Tim 4:7) “I have fought the good fight – Paul was enlisted in a good battle (1 Tim 6:12; Eph 6:10-18). … finished the race – Paul’s race wasn’t over ‘till his death (Acts 20:24; Heb 12:1; 2 Tim 2:5). … kept the faith” – Paul was a good steward of the gospel (2 Tim 1:13-14; Lk 12:42-44, 35-36) .
5
He Looked Ahead (2 Tim 4:8) “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, & not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” Stephanos – a victory crown: imperishable (1 Pet 5:4; 1 Cor 9:24-27). Given by “the Righteous Judge” (1 Jn 4:17-19) Shared “with all” who welcome Jesus’ return (Phil 4:1; 1 Thess 2:19).
