7 LIFE CYCLE REVIEW  Dormancy  Germination  Pollination  Fertilization  Seed Dispersal - The dispersal of seeds by wind, animals, or water -The process during which pollen is released from the male part of the plant (stamen) and sent to the female part (carpel) - The period in a plant’s life when growth and development temporarily stops - The process during which a plant begins to grow from a seed - The process during which pollen is combined with the ovule (in the ovary) and a seed is formed

11 PHOTOSYNTHESIS  Photosynthesis: the process in which plants use water (H 2 0), carbon dioxide (C0 2 ) from the air, and energy from the sun to make food and oxygen (O 2 ).

13  What are the steps of photosynthesis? 1) Sunlight is absorbed by the chlorophyll inside of the chloroplasts 2) The roots absorb the water from the ground/soil 3) CO 2 is absorbed by the stomata 4) Sunlight provides energy for the plant to split apart CO2 and H 2 O 5) Atoms are rearranged to form glucose (C6H12O6) and 02 6) O2 is released through the stomata and the glucose is consumed by the plant

14 RESPIRATION  Respiration: the stomata on the bottom of the plant’s leaves take in CO 2 and releases O 2 (how plants “breathe”)

15 TRANSPIRATION  Transpiration: the stomata released water vapor into the air

16 TABLE TALK  What time of day do you think photosynthesis takes place?  What time of day do you think respiration takes place?  What time of day do you think transpiration takes place?

17 HOMEWORK- 3 RD PERIOD  You are impersonating an O2 atom.  You are describing your story as you travel through a plant and experience:  Photosynthesis  Respiration  Transpiration
