ELECTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEMS MOTOR VEHICLE
2
EBS ADVANTAGES 1. Shorter braking distance
Reduction of response and build-up time Quicker and more precise brake pressure control Electro pneumatic control circuit Shorter pneumatic lines Larger cross sections of valves 10 bar constant pressure system by new APU (Air Processing Unit) Use of disc brakes (drum brakes also possible)
3
EBS ADVANTAGES 2. Longer service life of wheel brakes
Dependent from wear brake apportioning in towing vehicle during adapting braking Dependent from adhesion brake apportioning in towing vehicle during higher decelerations Better participation of trailer during braking mechanics Involvement of available sustained-action brakes (engine brake, continuous throttle, retarder)
4
EBS ADVANTAGES 3. Improved actuation
Pedal feeling similar to cars Reduction of response and build-up time Deceleration control by providing travel at brake pedal clearly improves ability to graduate braking force 4. Better participation of trailer Quicker trailer response through "pressure shot" to coupling head for control (at trailers without EBS) Reduction of response and build-up time Quicker and more precise brake pressure control through electro pneumatic control Automatic brake apportioning to tractor and trailer within EC brake band At trailers with EBS optimized brake apportioning through return information of wheel speeds of the trailer
5
EBS ADVANTAGES 5. Extended diagnosis and service possibilities
Self tests when starting up, driving and braking Component check: circuit path checked for interruption, short-circuit after battery positive and ground Measurement readings given via on-board display or Diagnostic Interface via PC diagnosis Fault memory Sporadic and current malfunctions can be called up Reactions checked for plausibility: permuted cables, pressure input and effect 6. Feasible additional options: Halt brake Rollback lock ESC
