Today’s Objectives A word about your project assignments Help you begin to understand a “customer centered”, structured design process 2

A Word About Your Project Assignments… 3 There were 28 projects available for biding Only two projects did not receive at least one bid Project bids were carefully considered by assigned project coaches More than 84% of teams received one of their first three proposal bids 5 teams were assigned to a project they did not bid on In general, your proposals were the best we have ever seen in Capstone We believe that all teams have very worthwhile projects We sincerely believe all teams are poised for success Thank you for your excellent work and for universally meeting the Thursday 9AM deadline

The Deep Dive! We are going to watch a Nightline video with Ted Koppel that you may have already seen about the IDEO Design Company Individual Assignment: 1.Look for as many “Customer Centered” Design Principles as you can find in the video… 2.Note these principles (…and examples) in your Guidebook 10

OK, So What Did You Learn? 11

Coming Up Class tomorrow (8:00AM Wed) in 214 CTB Introduction to Project Definition & Organization Introduction to Project Documentation Make sure you contact your sponsor TODAY, if you haven’t already done so! Next week Class Monday – Identifying and interpreting Customer Needs… Workshop 8:00-9:50 T, W, or Th – Wilk 3228, Scheduling TBA We will schedule your team for one of these three days If you have a conflict on one or more of these days, please let Paula know ASAP

Being Eager To Be Taught… “ I’ve learned as a student and teacher to recognize three main enemies of learning. They are attitudes in the student: self-doubt, indifference, and pride. If you doubt your capacity to learn, you are right to doubt. If you don’t care whether or not you learn, you won’t. And, if you want to learn without correction from someone else, you have chosen the harder way.” 13 President Henry B. Eyring

Summary: Capstone is an opportunity: 1. To learn—and learn to use, a “customer centered” and structured design process 2. To strengthen your confidence (your faith), that you can learn to do good engineering design” 3. To learn to work synergistically with others 4. To learn, that doing design, will foster learning 14
