9 Let’s work out the rules! 1. e.g. Eddie prefers sleeping to going out. We can use ‘_______’ (to do, doing) or ‘_______’ (nouns, adjectives) after ‘prefer’ and ‘to’. 2. e.g. I prefer eating Chinese food to (eating) Western food. We can omit the 2nd verb when it is the same as the first one. 3. e.g. I prefer to eat Chinese food. If we only want to talk about the thing we would like to do, we can just use ‘prefer to do …’. e.g. I prefer to paint the sky blue. prefer … to … doing nouns Western food. We prefer Game 2 to Game 1.

16 Let’s work out the rules! 1. e.g. Amy would rather have pizza than have noodles. We use ‘_______’ (to do, do) after ‘would rather’ and ‘than’. 2. e.g. I would rather wear trousers than (wear) a skirt. We can omit the 2nd verb when it is the same as the first one. 3. e.g. I’d rather wear trousers than a skirt. I would rather … = I’d rather … 4. e.g. I would rather wear trousers. If we only want to talk about the thing we would like to do, we can just use ‘would rather do …’. would rather … than … do a skirt.
