4 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 3 Adding and Manipulating Text You can add text directly to the slides With PowerPoint, you have several alternatives for placing text in text objects on your slides: –Text placeholders for entering slide title & subtitle –Text labels for short notes and phrases –Word processing boxes for longer text –You can also place text inside objects such as circles, rectangles, or stars

5 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 4 Adding and Manipulating Text Text labels is used for text that does not wrap to a second line with in the textbox, such as short note or phrase. Word processing boxes is used for text that wraps within the text box, such as longer notes and sentences Using the text box tool to drag a text box of the suitable size, and then typing the text. Click the text box button, click the slide where you want to place the label, and then type the text.

6 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 5 Changing Size, Alignment & Spacing To size an object to fit a given amount of text, you can either manually size it or you can use the “Resize AutoShape to fit text” option

7 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 6 Changing Size, Alignment & Spacing To control the way text is aligned within an object, you can select the object and click one of the alignment buttons on the Formatting toolbar. Try to use the Short keys to align the text.

9 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 8 Finding & Replacing Text and Fonts The Find and Replace commands include options for more detailed searches: –To search for whole words, you select the “Find whole words only” check box. For example, if the text you are searching for is plan, PowerPoint skips over plant.

10 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 9 Finding & Replacing Text and Fonts To search for a word or phrase that exactly matches the case, or capitalization, you specify, you select the “Match case” check box. For example, if you are searching for IRS, PowerPoint skips over firs.

11 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 10 Correcting Text while Typing PowerPoint uses a feature called AutoCorrect to correct common capitalization and spelling errors as you type them. For example, if you type the instead of the or WHen instead of When, AutoCorrect corrects the entry. Tools  auto correct option

12 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 11 Checking Spelling and presentation Style Tools  Spelling Or Press F7 You can add words to PowerPoint’s supplemental dictionary (called CUSTOM.DIC), or create custom dictionaries to check the spelling of unique words.

16 Tariq Aziz, Dammam Community College 15 Choosing the Best Word PowerPoint’s Thesaurus (glossary) to look up alternative words, or synonyms, for a selected word. To use the Thesaurus, you select the word you want to look up, and on the Tools menu, click Thesaurus

The first is a single line of text, and the second is a note that wraps in a box. You can align text to the left or right, or center You can use the Find and Replace commands PowerPoint uses AutoCorrect to correct common capitalization and spelling errors as you type. PowerPoint’s spelling checker checks the spelling of slides, outlines, notes pages, and handout pages. You can use PowerPoint’s Thesaurus to look up synonyms for a selected word
